My Marine project:
I'm sure we can all agree that the oceans and seas are a magnificent and wondrous thing, and that's why I've started this Marine Project, because I want to help conserve and save what we can of this beauty.I have decided to sell turtle drawings and merchandise, along with other sea creatures, scenes and wildlife, in order to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society. I will continue to produce a collection of sea and ocean inspired works to raise awareness of the cause and these will all eventually be on sale too, with 20% of all profits going to the charity!😀
The Original Drawings of these two turtle pieces are for sale in my etsy shop, with proceeds going to the Marine Conservation Society.
Red bubble merchandise is also available to purchase and will contribute to the charity as well, helping the conservation of our oceans and welfare of ocean wildlife.
Why do we need to help marine conservation?
Marine conservation is about protecting and preserving the ecosystems in seas and oceans. Why is this important? Well, not only does it provide home to billions of creatures and wildlife, but it also contributes to our wellbeing and that of the environment
-the oceans generate half of the oxygen we breathe
-97% of the world's water is contained in the oceans
-they can absorb carbon dioxide, helping to reduce climate change
.....and this is only a fraction of what the oceans do for us!
What's the problem?
So yeah, the oceans are massive and mysterious and we don't fully understand them, but that doesn't mean that the small things we do don't affect them, and that by doing small good things we cant help them, because of course we can!
-millions of tonnes of plastic enter seas and oceans each year either as large items or microplastics
-over 100,000 wildlife die per year from plastics in oceans
-over 1 million sea birds are killed from plastic
-plastic bags can be mistaken as food and kill many animals as they don't disintegrate.
-overfishing causes erosion of the food chain and can lead to extinction of other marine life such as turtles and dolphins
-ocean pollution can cause contamination of the food chain, which will have effects on humans
-toxic waste from industries can kill wildlife
...and again, this is only part of the problem.
What causes ocean pollution?
-littering
-sewage
-ocean mining
-oil spills
-agricultural runoff
-toxic chemicals
-air pollutants
-maritime transportation
Why I'm supporting The Marine Conservation society
-The Marine Conservation society is the leading marine charity in the UK and has seen many successes over the years
-I want to be able to see a difference being made and by donating to this charity I want to support the ongoing activities they do to aid marine conservation.
-This is a trusted and professional charity whose work can be seen to be making a difference
- I am currently a member of the Marine Conservation society and would like to be able to donate more to the cause.
What does The Marine Conservation Society do?
-they aim to fill the seas with life
-ensure sustainable use of the seas
-prevent and celan up marine litter and pollution
-minimise damage from development and climate change
-create a sustainable future for our seas and oceans!
Thank you for reading this post, and I hope you'll help me with my marine project. I'm open to any suggestions for marine artwork or merchandise to help raise money for the cause.
Even the smallest of things can make the biggest difference. Let's look after our beautiful earth together! What do you think?
Love Kat xx
